Prepare for Impact!

It's May and students and teachers alike know we're in the home stretch....This month abounds with reviews, exams, progress reports, and celebrations, and is a good time to reflect on all you've accomplished in the school year that has just flown by.

You're in a perfect position to build on the momentum you've made in greening your school this year. A few things done now will make all the difference at Back-to-School time, so what steps can you take now to increase your greening impact next year?

  • Assemble a Green Team: If you don't have one yet, get your Green Team in place before school lets out for summer, so you can hit the ground running in August.
  • Assess Progress: Lead students in a school environmental audit to see whether any of the actions you took this school year have reduced the school's carbon footprint.
  • Green Your School Supplies Mailer: Prepare now for your August "Green Back-to-School" mailer for students and families -- make sure you recommend green items, like paper with recycled content, and PVC-free and reusable supplies. Direct people to our Buying Guide for green supplies.
  • Party Green! Keep your celebrations green with these green events tips.
  • Inform your Community: Wrap up this year's projects with an end-of-year report for your school and district newsletter demonstrating what you've accomplished. Communicating about successes helps maintain momentum, and informs and motivates your community so they can help drive your cause forward.
